SDC-MCF10G Certification Information

The SDC-MCF10G is certified for compliance to various CE, ETSI, FCC, and Industry Canada as well as certification to Wi-Fi Alliance standards. The grants, approvals, and formal test reports associated with these certifications may be leveraged by Summit customers to achieve their required device certifications. The degree to which customers can leverage these Summit items is dependent upon the regulatory agency, industry body, and the type of end device.

CE and ETSI

The SDC-MCF10G has been tested for compliance to various CE and ETSI standards and specifications.

These certifications were secured with the following configuration:

• SDC-MCF10G with a transmit power of 18 dBm with a 0 dBi PCB omnidirectional antenna

The formal compliance test reports for the various standards may be found here:

These formal test reports may be leveraged by mobile and portable device vendors as part of their self declaration to obtain the CE mark required by members of the European Union. ETSI/CE rules differ from those of the FCC and IC in that there is no provision for a modular approval. All approvals and certifications must exist at the device level rather than the module (radio) level.

Summit has obtained a Frequency Authority Certificate for the SDC-MCF10G in compliance with Annex IV procedures in article 10.5 of the R&TTE directive 99/5/EC and a Statement of Opinion in accordance with Article 3 of that directive. Like all Summit devices, the SDC-MCF10G is fully compliant with European Union Directive 2003/95/EC or Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) as per our Declaration of Compliance.

FCC

Summit has received grant number TWG-SDMCF10G for the SDC-MCF10G under FCC regulations Part 15 Subpart C Sections 15.207 and 15.247 (a, b, d, and e). This grant is a Limited Modular Approval (LMA). Specific limitations are indicated on the grant.

The following test reports in support of the TWG-SDMCF10G grant are available:

• FCC Part 15 Subpart B (Class B)
• FCC Part 15 Subpart C (Section 15.247)
• FCC 1.1310 (RF Exposure)

All above testing for the TWG-SDMCF10G grant was performed with the SDC-CF10G configured for 19 dBm (80 mW) transmit power. The following antenna was used during testing for the grant:

• 0 dBi Printed Circuit Board Omnidirectional antenna to result in an Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP or the combined gain of the transmitter and antenna) of 19 dBm

Mobile Devices

FCC rules allow vendors to use these grants for their mobile devices without additional testing or certification only if the following conditions are met:

• The radio must be set for no more than the same transmit power as was used for the grant.
• The antennas used with these devices must be of like type (i.e., dipole or monopole).
• The antennas used with these devices must be of equal or lesser gain.
• Mobile device vendors must add all necessary FCC statements to their user's manual. These statements may be found in the Hardware Integration Guide accessed from the product specifications page for this product.

Portable Devices

Because of their operation within close proximity to the human body, portable devices must undergo an additional level of testing that is not required of mobile devices. This testing is referred to as Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing which measures the amount of energy from the device that is absorbed by the human body. Because SAR is device-specific, FCC rules do not allow for an LMA for use with portable devices. As such, portable device vendors must secure an FCC grant for their devices rather than leverage an existing grant at the module (radio) level.

Mobile device vendors may leverage all test reports associated with the TWG-SDCMCF10G grants as referenced above. Summit's TWG-SDCMCF10G grants were obtained through a TCB, Curtis-Straus, LLC based upon their test data provided by their sister company, Advanced Data Technology. As such, device vendors may find it most efficient to work with Curtis-Straus for their mobile device certifications. Curtis-Straus does not provide SAR testing but can recommend applicable test labs.

Industry Canada

The SDC-MCF10G is certified to the Industry Canada (IC) RSS-210 standard. IC 6616A-SDMCF10G certification is based on FCC certification testing, using the same antennas and transmit power and covering the same frequency bands. Test reports and data sheets relevant to this certification may be found in the FCC section above.

TELEC

Summit has secured the following two TELEC certifications:

• Article 2 Item 19, Category WW (2.4GHz Channels 1-13)
• Article 2 Item 19-2, Category GZ (2.4GHz Channel 14)

These certifications were secured using a 0 dBi Omni antenna.

The following test report in support of the TELEC certifications is available:

Device vendors may leverage these certifications and the associated test report when applying for TELEC certifications at the device level rather than the module (radio) level.

Wi-Fi Alliance

Summit has submitted the SDC-MCF10G to an authorized Wi-Fi Alliance test lab and as a result has received and Embedded Client Certification to the following standards: 802.11b, 802.11g, WPA (both personal and enterprise) and WPA2/802.11i (both personal and enterprise). For those host devices which include the SDC-MCF10G and are using version 1.02.04 of the Summit Client Utility (SCU) and 1.02.05 of the device driver (or later versions of each), the vendor may assert that their device incorporates a Wi-Fi Certified Embedded Client. The vendor need not be a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance to make this assertion but may not use the "Wi-Fi Certified" logo in conjunction with their device.

Device vendors who are members of the Wi-Fi Alliance may also choose to secure a Wi-Fi Alliance certification for their specific device. In this case, the vendor may not leverage the test data or certification for the Summit device. The vendor can, however, use the SDC-MCF10G test plan (Wi-Fi Alliance Test Plan 129) as a template, modifying it as necessary for the capabilities of their particular device. By leveraging Summit's "pre-approved" software and test plan, the vendor has a greater assurance that their actual testing will result in an end device certification. Summit will provide consultative services to those vendors who choose to pursue a Wi-Fi Alliance certification for their Summit-equipped devices.
